Water heater repair for Bridgeport homes and rentals
Tank, tankless and boiler-fed indirect water heaters that run cold, leak, rumble or will not light, tested before anything is replaced.
Water heater repair in Bridgeport covers tank and tankless units that run out of hot water, leak, rumble or will not light. Most repairs come down to a worn thermocouple or flame sensor, a failed gas valve or element, sediment in the tank, or a tankless unit that needs descaling. We test the unit first and tell you whether a repair is worth it.

Water around the base
A fitting, relief valve or a failing tank.
Rumbling or popping
Sediment boiling on the bottom of the tank.

Call any hour
We ask about the heater type, age and what it is doing.
- 2
Find the leak or fault
Tank, fittings, valves and relief valve checked.
- 3
Test the parts
Ignition, controls, elements or sensors tested.
- 4
Price the options
Repair or replacement, with the unit's age in mind.
- 5
Repair
The failed part replaced, often from the van.
- 6

Sediment or scale cleared when it is part of the problem.
- 7
Test and vent check
Temperature, relief valve and venting confirmed.
Find the failed part before replacing the heater
A water heater that goes cold is not always a water heater that has to be replaced. On a gas tank, the usual faults are a pilot that will not stay lit, a dirty burner, a weak thermocouple or a failed gas control. On an electric tank it is usually an element or a thermostat. Tankless units more often shut down on scale, a clogged inlet screen or a venting fault, and they tell you with an error code.
The exception is the tank itself. Once the steel tank leaks from the body rather than a fitting, no repair will hold and the heater must be replaced. We check where the water is coming from before anyone talks about a new heater.

Tank Water Heater Repair
Gas tank heaters fail most often at the pilot and burner: a thermocouple that no longer holds the gas valve open, a dirty pilot tube, a flue baffle that has rusted through, or a gas control that has stopped regulating. Electric tanks lose an upper or lower element or the thermostat that runs it. We test each part, replace the one that failed, flush sediment if the tank rumbles, and check the temperature and pressure relief valve and the venting before we leave. If the anode rod is spent, we say so and price it.
Tankless Water Heater Repair and Descaling
Tankless heaters work hard in older houses with hard water and long pipe runs. Scale builds on the heat exchanger, flow sensors read wrong, and the unit shuts down with a code. We read the code history, clean the inlet filter, descale the heat exchanger with a pump and solution through the service valves, and check gas pressure and venting, which cause many repeat lockouts. If the unit has no isolation valves, we add them so future descaling takes minutes instead of a plumbing job. Most tankless calls end with a working heater the same visit.
Indirect Water Heaters on Boilers
Many older Bridgeport houses make hot water with an indirect tank heated by the boiler. When hot water runs short, the fault is often on the boiler side: a zone valve or circulator that does not open, a priority control that is set wrong, an aquastat that has drifted, or a boiler that short cycles. We test the boiler controls and the coil loop as well as the tank, so the fix lands on the part that actually failed and the heating side keeps working too.
How this job plays out in Bridgeport
Water heater calls come in at every hour, and a leaking tank in a basement shared by two or three apartments is treated as urgent, because the water reaches more than one household. Those calls run from the service office on Brookfield Ave in the North End, with the shoreline toward Guilford covered from the head office. Older houses often run an indirect tank off the boiler, so we check both pieces before deciding what failed.

What you can check before you call
On a gas tank, look through the sight window to see whether the pilot is lit, and check that the gas valve is set to on rather than pilot or vacation. On an electric tank, check the breaker. On a tankless unit, write down the error code shown on the display. If water is pooling, shut the cold supply valve above the heater and turn off the gas or power.
Leave the burner, gas valve and relief valve alone beyond that. A relief valve that is opening may be warning about high pressure, and forcing it shut is unsafe.
What changes the cost of a water heater repair
Type of heater
Gas, electric, tankless and indirect units use different parts.
The failed part
A thermocouple costs less than a gas control or circuit board.
Age of the unit
Older tanks may not be worth a costly part.
Scale and sediment
Descaling or flushing adds time on hard-water homes.
Venting and gas
Corroded vents or low gas pressure add work.
After-hours timing
Night and holiday visits are priced differently.
Water Heater Repair questions from Bridgeport homeowners
Usually, if the tank is not leaking and the unit is not near the end of its life. We give you both prices before any work starts.
Often a worn thermocouple, a dirty pilot or a venting problem pulling the flame out.
Yes, including descaling, sensor and ignition repairs and venting fixes.
Sediment, a failed lower element, or on an indirect tank a boiler control problem.
Leaking fittings and relief valves, yes. A tank leaking from its body has to be replaced.
Yes. The line is answered 24 hours a day, and leaks that threaten other units go first.
